Despite the Knicks' horrific loss last night, I still want to show them some love and give them some ink. They have one thing going good for them this season and that's David Lee.David Lee was never a standout player, he always did the dirty work, grab boards and bang down low in the paint. In High School he attended Chaminade College Preparatory School and in 2001 he was named to the McDonald's All-American team and won the Slam Dunk Competition.
Lee then went on to join the Florida Gator under coach Billy Donovan. As a freshman with the Gators Lee was named to the All-SEC Freshmen team and in his junior year was placed on the Second Team All-SEC. In the three years that he played he average double figures and grabbed about 7 rebounds per game.
In '05-'06 Lee was drafted with the Knicks' 2nd pick, 1st round-30th pick and had a quiet season starting only 14/67 games. After that season some people knew the name David Lee but still were not aware of what he is capable of. In '06-'07 David Lee destroyed the Rookie-Sophomore challenge. He shot 14-14 from the field, netting 30pts and grabbed 11 boards. Too bad shortly after that he sprained his ankle and after his return he only played sporadic minutes for the remainder of the season, only playing 58 games and starting 12 of them. In 08-09 David Lee set his career high 37 points and 21 rebounds and became the first Knick since Patrick Ewing's 34 pts 25 rebs on Feb 23, 1997.
This season David Lee is having a career season with all his numbers going up. He is averaging a double-double 20ppg and 11.5rpg and has started every game this year for the Knicks. Don't forget about the 2010 All-Star Selection this year. Lee has been overlooked throughout his whole career but this year he is making some noise. If you watch the Knicks play he is the only one beside the Boston-bound Nate Robinson that plays with heart. He doesn't bad mouth his team, ask for trades, or complain all he does is put in work! N that's not an easy task, the Knicks often have horrible shot selection, passing, defense its easy to get frustrated and give up but Lee doesn't he does his job and gets his 20 and 10 a game. Despite last night's half ass game the Knicks displayed one play stood out to me. It was not the sick reverse alley oop King James caught that could crown him this years Dunk Competition winner it was the heart of Lee. Lebron was on a fastbreak to get another highlight but Lee hustled back and laid a hard foul on the King. Not only does this stop a highlight, it's a sign that you aren't gonna come into my paint and dunk all over me. T-Mac got posterized because he was soft and let Delonte jump all over him. Bottomline, Lee is the Knicks franchise player like him or not he is a keeper and hes only going to keep getting better. DLEE-42, I look forward to seeing you progress more and become one of the leagues elite forwards.
